Heavyweights-Demon Hunter, Haste the Day, These 5 Down, Oh Sleeper

These bands are among the heaviest stuff to which I listen, and even then I tend to stick to their lighter songs.  However, for you who like your music thick and heavy, check them out.  There's a few different genres here: metal, hardcore, etc. so enjoy!

Demon Hunter  Lead vocals-Ryan Clark, Bass guitar-Jon Dunn, Drums-Timothy Watts, Lead guitar/Backing vocals-Patrick Judge, Rhythm guitar-Ryan Helm

Demon Hunter is another Seattle band and so is near and dear to my heart.  Plus, these guys know how to rock.  You want crazy drums?  Got it.  Chugging guitars?  They're here.  Vocals that smack you upside the head?  Check.  But there's more to Demon Hunter.  They've been known to go unplugged and play in churches.  Their slower songs are every bit as good as their hard ones and are often heartbreakingly beautiful.  Lots of talent here.

Haste the Day Lead vocals-Stephen Keech, Bass-Mike Murphy, Guitar-Dave Krysl, Drums-Giuseppe Capolupo, Guitar-Scotty Whelan

Haste the Day has just finished its time as a band and broken up, but only after a long and successful career.  They are a straight, hard metalcore band, though they have variation within their music.  They have some pretty good guitar-work, hard vocals, and some very poetic lyrics.

These 5 Down Nathan Bauman, Justin Pletscher, Brandon Whitlock, Mike Cais, Josh Walker

These 5 Down is a great, but little known metal band that has a low, deep, and heavy sound.  There's a lot of weight to their music; it's not really something that you can listen to lightly.  Their vocal style is perhaps the most interesting thing about the band; it's this growly, gritty, slow-paced sound that's unique.  The story of These 5 Down is fascinating to hear.  The five members of the band--now Christians--were at one point involved heavily into drugs and other dangerous lifestyles, but they changed dramatically and brought this music with them.

Oh Sleeper Lead guitar/clean vocals-Shane Blay, Rhythm guitar-James Erwin, Screamed vocals/guitars-Micah Kinard, Drums-Zach Mayfield

This is a metalcore band, which is a genre that I don't typically listen to, but I think that Oh Sleeper is great.  They've got the blazing-fast drums and the wailing guitar that I love.  On top of that, the lyrical content of the band's songs is great.  The references, the imagery, and the poetry of what they're singing about is awesome.  I've heard an interview with the band on the Anvil and the Hammer, and they were very intelligent and had some great things to talk about.

Apologies

I apologize all over myself for having no posts since January.  I hope there's still a few of you guys checking this out.  I'm not much of a blogger and I've had a hard time making time for this, but that's not really a good excuse. Here's at least one post for the moment, but there should be more in the near future.  I don't think that I will be as busy as I have been, so tentatively expect more activity, though probably still not a lot.
